Browsing through Facebook last weekend we came across Southern Hill Farm’s Blueberry Picking Weekend which made me pause. The fact that they had two food trucks participating made me even more interested. With over 400 people interested/going I wondered where Clermont was and proceeded to Google maps to find out. An hour and some change from Port Orange, not too bad. I contacted my sweetheart and asked if he wanted to go blueberry picking. We both were raised up north and have fond memories of picking ourselves throughout the woods.
Southern Hill Farms is in its fourth season of “you pick your own” and the season started in mid-May this year. It will go until May. They have made many improvements this season including gorgeous new bathrooms. There’s a converted cotton picker that boosts a seated deck for aerial views of the farm. Their Southern Hill Market serves fares of all kinds including everything blueberry…jam, biscuits, cobbler, muffins, and handmade merchandise including candles, lip balm and more.
This family-friendly farm offers a hayride around the fields for $1 per person along with a covered playground for the little ones. An observation deck is the perfect place to enjoy your hand picked blueberries or a cold blueberry lemonade while taking in the view of acres of land.
Their prices are super! $4/lb u-pick blueberries, $5/lb pre-picked blueberries and $10 for a 5lb bag of frozen blueberries. They accept cash and credit. Sorry no animals allowed due to food safety regulations on the farm.
